The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that a study of almost 34,000 women was concluded recently over a 10 year period. 31,671 women had no history any cardiovascular disease, while 2,262 did have a history of cardiovascular disease. During the 10 year period of the study, women with cardiovascular disease had 269 heart attacks or 11.89% of them ended up having the heart attacks.
Within the women that did not have cardiovascular disease, 932 or 2.94% ended up having heart attacks over the 10 year period. Now here is the interesting part. Among women that had no history of cardiovascular disease, if those that reported using a multivitamin supplement, had a 27% lower risk of heart attack. If the subjects reported using a multivitamin for at least 5 years, the risk of having a heart attack was lowered by 41%.
Now, that is an amazing study. Keep in mind that there have been studies in the past that did not show significant reduction in risk from women that were taking multivitamins. Some experts feel that the reason for this is that not all multivitamins are created equally. Some are better than others. Many do not contain the right dosage or that their ingredients are not the best. If you want to take some great multivitamins, try these combinations:
